Always put valuables in a pocket that can be closed. In crowded
places, carry your bag in front of you. |
 |
Never leave your bag unattended. In a bar or restaurant, wrap a
handle firmly around your chair or your leg. |
 |
If robbed, report and get papers to prove it! You will probably
need them for your insurance back home. This can usually be done at the local
police station, but beware as it often takes a lot of time... |
 |
Never provide
credit card or bank details unless you really have to. Don’t let a waiter
wander off with your credit card. |
 |
Make sure your
luggage is already off the vehicle when you pay the driver. |
 |
Beware when
something suspicious happens, such as being in large crowds of people or
children, people asking directions or spilling anything on your clothes. |
 |
If you receive a
fine from the police or customs officials, don’t make a fuss. If they seem to
be nit-picking, ask for their identification and tell them you will follow
them to their office. That usually is enough to discourage anyone posing as an
officer. Except within a police station or customs office, NEVER give your
passport to anyone! |
